Week 2- Thursday: Card Sketch Challenge #5

There are a lot of different ways you could alter today's card sketch. I was originally thinking patterned paper for the rectangles and a heart stickers,with bling or sequins. You could change the heart to and shape, or embellishment, change the circles to buttons, etc! You could even turn it vertical.

Katie's Card: I followed the sketch pretty close, I used a block of patterned paper and strip of washi for my background and cut out a heart from paper. I used bling, stamped on my sentiment and then also added a little puppy diecut.

Emily's Card: I also followed the sketch pretty closely! I used another strip of paper for the bottom instead of washi and I substituted some little heart stamps for the bling, though. All this paper came from one of those giant stacks of thin papers (from My Mind's Eye). I know people tend to avoid those, but let me tell you, they're great for cards because there are so many coordinating combinations, the papers are easy to layer without much bulk, and there's enough of each pattern that you could easily mass produce a certain card if you wanted.

Week 2 - Thursday: Card Sketch Challenge #4

When I (Emily) designed this sketch and sent it to Katie, we agreed that it's a very versatile one. I think it can be a great use of scraps, and Katie suggested that it might be fun to create the stripes using washi tape.

Emily's card: I created this card with 7 1x6 inch papers from My Mind's Eye and a border punch I've been wanting to try out since I found it at a resale shop for $3. It's quite simple but I love the color combinations and the dimension that comes from the punched edges.



Katie's Card: I love the little borders that American Crafts has along the bottom edge of their papers. I've been trimming them off and saving them for a fun project. I thought about using washi tape, but then I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to use these little strips of paper.

Week 2 - Thursday: Card Sketch #3

Today's card sketch is a pretty simple sketch, When I designed it I was thing multiple layers of paper and circle embellishments, but be inspired by it however you want!

Katie's Card: I made a 4th of July card for this sketch. I pulled out my spirograph stamps from the Stamps of Life as well as some fireworks stamps. (But I don't know who those are by.) After stamping them, I trimmed them into circles and arranged them onto my card. I did move my sentiment down to the bottom. I just liked it better there than where it was in the sketch.

Emily's Card: As soon as Katie sent me the sketch to work with, I knew I had to use some of my new stamps from Studio Calico's June card kit. The big circular sentiment was perfect for the sketch, and the little globe and compass stamps fit in well, too. You might recognize the papers from this layout - I love to use scraps and leftovers to make cards.

Card Sketch #2

We've got another card sketch for you today! With Mother's Day coming up, we figured it would be a great time to provide you with a simple sketch that's easy to add more embellishment to, or easy to stick in an envelope and mail to your mom as it is.

Emily's Card: I followed the sketch exactly with some simple coordinating My Mind's Eye papers, a strip of washi, and a stamped label to house the sentiment. I stamped out the sentiment with my favorite Studio Calico Stepping Stone alpha stamps and then filled them in with watercolors that matched my papers. I put the label up on foam adhesive to give the very simple card some dimension and interest.



Katie's Card: I like how nice and simple the sketch is. It's easy to customize. I used the sketch for a horizontal card instead of vertical, but I kept the same design. I added a couple of fussy cut paper flowers to make more of a visual triangle and added a couple of doodles to my sentiment.

Card Sketch #1

Today's challenge is a card sketch. Just like the Layout sketches, feel free to change it up to suit your style, use it as a starting point or stay with the design in the sketch!

It's a fairly simple card sketch, a few banners, a sentiment and a place for a stamped image, patterned paper, embellishment, etc! You could also change this into a layout sketch, placing a photo where the image is.

Katie's card: I love this bicycle stamp which is from the same stamp set as the Radio stamp (from the Tough Supply Challenge) and I also have this fun black and white bicycle patterned paper, I think they go together quite nicely. For my color scheme I decided to go with pink, black and white, following the sketch and adding a little bit of bling for embellishment.

Cards are fun for when you don't feel like creating a whole layout. I love making small projects like cards, they're quick, easy (most of the time) and they usually turn out pretty cute!

Emily's card: I decided to flip Katie's sketch over so that I could make a portrait card instead of a landscape one. It was a simple card to make, yet I'm so in love with it! I used three coordinating patterned papers from My Mind's Eye and the big camera stamp from the Amy Tangerine Yes, Please clear stamp set. I think this sketch would be great for mass-producing cards, because it comes together quickly and looks great. Link up your project! We love seeing your different takes on our sketches!
