Week 2 - Tuesday: Inspired By... Challenge #5

I (Emily) chose the image for this week's Inspired By... Challenge from my Words Pinterest Board:

Emily's Art Journal Page: I loved the watercolor background in the inspiration image, and I love working with watercolors in my journal, so I started by putting down a layer of blues and greens. Then I did some hand-lettering and added a doodled border with a white gel pen.

Katie's Art Journal Page: I had every intention of doing a scrapbook layout for this challenge, but my computer was having issues so I couldn't print out any photos. I went for an art journal page instead.
I layered washi tape with watercolor pencils, then doodled with a white marker.

Week 2- Tuesday: Inspired By... Challenge #4

This weeks Inspired By... image was chosen by Katie. I've actually had this image pinned for years. I love reading and books and things organized by color, so of course I love this bookcase. I decided to use it for today's inspiration post. Whether you're inspired by the books, the colors or something else I hope you join us!

 via pinterest.

Katie's Layout: My mom just finished working on a quilt that was rainbow, which meant that there were these nice rainbow fabric scraps laying around. I decided to use them as part of my background. I stitched the fabric down and then my photo as well. When I was sewing down my photo is shifted so it's a bit crooked but it doesn't bother me too much. ;)

Emily's Art Journal Page: I loved the piece Katie chose to inspire us this week, but I found myself with a bad case of scrapper's block when I sat down to make a layout for this challenge. So I changed course a little bit and decided to pull out my art journal and do a simple page to try out some new paints and work on my painted script.

Week 2 - Tuesday: Inspired By... Challenge #3

For anyone new, here's how the Inspired By... challenge works: We will provide the inspiration (usually something we found on Pinterest or elsewhere on the Internet) and some sample projects, and then all you have to do is link up a project inspired by whatever it is that inspired us!

On today's Inspired By... Challenge, you get two images to work from! We love these geometric gemstone shapes.

I found both of these on Pinterest and sadly, neither has a working source link.

Emily's Layout: In addition to being inspired by this challenge to use the lovely faceted sequin stamps from Studio Calico's June card kit, I was inspired by some beautiful mint green paint I got the other day to use a mint/gold/navy blue/white color scheme. I was able to pull that all together with one of my favorite photos from my trip to Disney last Christmas that happened to contain just the right colors and shapes.

Katie's Layout: I loved the doodled look of the gems in the first image so I doodled a few of my own onto chipboard, then I misted them with Heidi Swapp's gold Color Shine. The shape of the fountain at the Ft. Worth Water Gardens reminded me of a gem, so it worked great for this page too.

Inspired By... Challenge #2

For today's Inspired By.. challenge I browsed through my pinterest boards looking for something that I thought could easily be transformed into a layout. When I stumbled upon an image of these tape frames, I knew I could do something with this photo!

For anyone new, here's how the Inspired By... challenge works: We will provide the inspiration (usually something we found on Pinterest or elsewhere on the Internet) and some sample projects, and then all you have to do is link up a project inspired by whatever it is that inspired us!

Katie's Layout: I saw this as the perfect opportunity to use some of my washi tape stash. I had a hard time not using any patterned papers, but I knew that if I did, I wouldn't get the same picture frame look with my washi tape. I cut my washi tape in half that way it was a bit thinner.

Inspired By... Challenge #1

It's always interesting when you're able to take an image of something not-scrapbook-related and transfer some element of it onto a scrapbook page or other paper-crafting project. The point of this challenge is to inspire you to do just that! We will provide the inspiration (usually something we found on Pinterest or elsewhere on the Internet) and some sample projects, and then all you have to do is link up a project inspired by whatever it is that inspired us!

This time, the inspiration image is this lovely quilt:

source: Sewing in a Straight Line, Brett Bara

Emily's layout: I treated the quilt like a sketch for a page and used strips of My Mind's Eye paper in place of the quilted stripes. This is a very simple interpretation of the image, but I love how it turned out and I'm really happy to finally have this photo (circa 2011 or 2012) scrapped!

Katie's layout: I thought the bright colors of the quilt were perfect for the camping photos I had to scrap! I also loved the simple stripes on the quilt, but I wanted to change things up a little bit. I cut strips of green and orange/yellow paper, then I cut them in half and placed them on both sides of my page.
This project was perfect for using up a bunch of mixed matched paper scraps!
