Week 1- Tuesday: Layout Sketch #5

When I (Katie) designed this weeks sketch I was picturing washi tape, but you could just as easily use patterned paper, ribbon, etc for the strips. Here is today's layout sketch:

Katie's Layout: I got some neon green washi tape from Downtown Tape (which if you need to stock up on washi, Downtown tape sells washi for less than $2.00 a roll!) and layered it in strips above and below my photo. I felt like the left side of my layout was a bit empty, so I added a patterned paper banner along the side.

A note from Emily: I'm finishing my summer job and moving into my home for the school year this week, so I won't have any projects to share today or Thursday. But I'll be back next week for sure!

Week 1- Tuesday: Layout Sketch #4

Emily designed the layout sketch for todays challenge.

 Katie's Layout: I loved Emily's sketch, but what I really liked about it was the journaling along the edges. I kept the 8.5x11 format, but I placed that onto a 12x12 and spread things out a bit. I added stripes of gesso around the edges of my 8.5x11 paper, and once it was dry, journaled on top of that.

Week 1 - Tuesday: Sketch Challenge #3

We took some time off from the challenge blog last week to rearrange our schedule here at Paper Lovers Studio. You can find our new schedule here.

Today's challenge is a layout sketch designed by Katie. You can follow the sketch exactly or use it as a starting point for a grid and only use a photo for one of the squares and maybe use patterned paper for the rest. Make it your own. :)

Katie's Layout: When I designed the sketch above I wanted to place the photos in a grid with a few embellishments around it. For my layout I matted my pictures with papers from Basic Grey's Clippings 6x6 paper pad. I used a few older Love, Elsie epoxy stickers for my embellishments and then added my journaling on the side.

Emily's Layout: I had to adapt Katie's sketch a little to use just one photo and fit it all on an 8.5x11 layout. But I did it! I switched out the two bottom squares of the sketch for a single photo and filled the top two squares with patterned paper and a journaling tag. Everything in this layout came from the Studio Calico June Card Kit, Roundabout, except for the darker kraft paper, the sequins, and the journaling tag, which is from a pack by Elle's Studio.

Sketch Challenge #2

Ready for another sketch challenge? We hope so, because that's what we have for you today!

Sketch:

Emily's layout: I've been meaning to scrapbook these photos for awhile now and I'm really happy that I was able to get them on a page, and together, even! Scrapping 8.5x11 makes it a challenge to get more than one photo on a page sometimes, but I succeeded by cropping these down to 4x4 and layering them a little bit. The sketch involves just a bit of layered paper, too, but it's easy to add more if that's your style!



Katie's layout: I hardly ever do digital layouts. I don't really dislike them, I just prefer to get my hands dirty playing with paint, etc. But I'm currently on a bit of a vacation so I don't have all of my supplies with me. So for this sketch I decided to challenge myself and go digi.
I loved the layering in the sketch, so I used different blocks of color and added patterns to them. I don't really own digital supplies so I just used my own design for the most part. The journaling block is a freebie Emily has coming up this week!

Sketch Challenge #1

Our first challenge here on the blog is a sketch challenge! Feel free to interpret the sketch how you want, changing it up here and there to fit your style!

I (Katie) really love following sketches. Deciding how I want to design my layout is the most time-consuming thing for me when I'm scrapbooking and sketches take all the hard work right out of it!

Katie's Layout:
I took these cloud photos a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to scrapbook them using different shades of blues and of course, lots of cloud embellishments. The cloud rub-ons are an older embellishment by Studio Calico, the cloud paper and the stitching template are by Amy Tangerine. I love the new embroidery templates!

Emily's Layout: Katie created the sketch for this challenge, and when she sent it to me, I was totally inspired--but I also knew that I was going to be changing it up quite a bit! I only scrap traditional pages in 8.5x11, first of all, and my stash of photos is all 4x6s because that's the easiest for me. So, here's my page:


And here are the changes I made to the sketch:

• I used 1 photo instead of 3
• I added an extra layer of patterned paper in place of the extra photos
• I did my journaling directly on the layout, instead of in a journaling box
• I added embellishment near the title and the journaling to complete a visual triangle

I really like this page! I've been meaning to scrap this photo of the Denton Courthouse and the lights for a long time. I used papers from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook collection, and the houses are stamps from her Ready Set Go collection.
