Week 1- Thursday: Color Challenge #5

Even though I (Emily) haven't been able to do any crafting this week, due to my job and moving, I did take a bit out of my schedule yesterday to choose a fun color scheme for today's challenge.

Katie's Project: I made an art journal page instead of a layout for today's challenge. I wanted a fun and easy project and I already had these gelli prints laying around. So I cut them up and collaged them down, did a bit of stamping and writing and I was pretty much done. :)

Week 1- Thursday: Color Challenge #4

Emily is on vacation this week, so it's just me (Katie) today! I was super inspired when making this layout.

For this challenge, I looked through my color pinterest board to see if I'd pinned anything I wanted to use. I found this color scheme "Frosted Brights" by Design-Seeds. I love the hot pink + blue combo. 

Katie's Layout- I started with a navy blue background and a bunch of small pink scraps which I just collaged onto my page. I stamped the spirographs with gesso to get the lightest shade on the color scheme. I didn't add as many light blue/aqua embellishments as I planned to, but I added a few from Amy Tangerine and Basic Grey.

Week 1 - Thursday: Color Challenge #3

Today's challenge is to use the following color scheme (found on Design-Seeds) on a project!

Emily's Layout:

I thought it would be fun to try out these primary and secondary colors on a layout, since they aren't colors I use often. I immediately broke out my paints to create a background to mimic the stripes of the color scheme graphic and then pulled out my sewing machine for the first time since last summer to sew it down to a piece of kraft card stock. I pulled out a photo from Disney World that matched and kept the layout very simple to showcase the fun background and the journaling.

Katie's Layout: I thought the colors Emily picked out were bright and fun. I fussy cut the bright swirls out of some BoBunny paper, and the orange flowers are by Queen and Co. When I embossed my arrows, my heat gun actually warped my layout a little bit, but i'm going to put it under something heavy for a few days to flatten it back out. ;)

Color Challenge #2

I (Katie) love using new color schemes as a challenge to combine different papers and supplies of mine that I might not normally use together. My favorite place to find color schemes is Design-Seeds. For today I'm challenging you to use the color scheme below- blue, red, yellow and pink. Or a combination of a couple of those colors.

I think these colors are very bright and summery and perfect for my stand-up paddleboarding photos.

I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos to color the waves and sun, then I added doodles with a fine black marker on top. The letters and Stickers are Thickers by American Crafts and the washi tape is by KandCo.

Color Challenge #1

Do you ever have a great idea for a layout, but have no idea what color scheme you want to use? Us too. That's why color challenges are fun, You can start off with the simple colors provided, and add in more colors if you wish!

If you ever need help putting color together, check out the site Design-Seeds. You'll find design ideas, color palettes, and so much inspiration for color.

Katie's Layout: I chose the color palette for this challenge and as soon as I saw it, I thought about a mini paper pad I have from MyMindsEye. The colors matched almost perfectly and I added a few brighter colors with washi tape and flower stickers from Amy Tangerine.
The hexagon and bumble bee stamps are also from MyMindsEye.

I like that I've got just a few bits of black here and there, I think they really stand out and give some focal points to my layout.

Emily's Layout: I'm not usually the best at color challenges, because I have a somewhat limited stash! But when Katie sent me the color scheme for this one, I was immediately reminded of the Echo Park Sweet Day papers that I picked up in digital form when they were on sale last summer. I only occasionally dabble in digital, but it's a great thing to try for challenges like this, when you don't have any real papers that fit the colors.
 
 I think my favorite part about this layout is how I did the journaling. I added a piece of "vellum" (just a white rectangle with the opacity set around 60%) over the patterned paper and then pulled out my Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet to write my journaling just like I would on a regular layout!
